Senator Trish Crossin will spend the next four days in East Timor experiencing life as an ADF Digger.

Date:  23 March 2009

Senator Trish Crossin will spend the next four days in East Timor getting a taste of what it is like to serve in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), as part of the 2009 Australian Defence Force Parliamentary Program (ADFPP).

The ADFPP provides parliamentarians a unique opportunity to obtain a more fully informed appreciation of the ADF.

Since it commenced in 2001, 83 parliamentarians have participated in the program which often gives them an intimate first hand experiences of service life, as well as a broader understanding of the capabilities of the ADF.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to be able to participate in this great program," Senator Crossin said.

"Our diggers do an incredibly tough job overseas, and I welcome the opportunity to experience a few days in their life on duty."

Upon arriving in East Timor, Senator Crossin will receive briefings and equipment to prepare her to live, eat and work with the ADF diggers.

Over the course of the trip, Senator Crossin will conduct routine activities including patrolling, sentry duties and physical training.
