Community organisations are encouraged to apply for the Federal Government's $21 million Volunteer Grants 2009 initiative, which recognises the valuable contribution of Australia's volunteers.
Date: 21 August 2009
Senator Trish Crossin is urging all community organisations to apply for the Federal Government's $21 million Volunteer Grants 2009 initiative in recognition of the valuable contribution of Australia's volunteers.
Community organisations are able to apply for grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 to purchase small equipment items and to contribute towards the reimbursement of volunteers' fuel costs incurred in their volunteer work.
"Volunteers provide an invaluable service to the community, offering their precious time to assist those in need," Senator Crossin said.
"The grants will help volunteers meet the cost of fuel incurred while carrying out their volunteering activities, such as transporting others to appointments, delivering food and generally helping people in need.
"The Australian Government recognises the important contribution volunteers make to the community.
"This is part of our ongoing commitment to support volunteers and building an inclusive Australia by encouraging community participation."
Information about Volunteer Grants 2009, including the Application Form and Application Guidelines, is available from the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) website at www.fahcsia.gov.au, or by calling the Toll-free Hotline on 1800 183 374.
